Natya Kala Conference:
Guruji always felt the need to bring artistes from different art forms, from different corners of the country together to assimilate the experience of different forms of dance and music.
In the year 1977, Kalasadan organized first ever All India Sangeetha Natya Kala Conference at Bombay. In this conference, the then seven forms of Indian Classical dance and two forms of classical music styles were represented by veteran gurus and performing artistes. On this occasion, gurus who gave lecture demonstrations included the following (1977 & 1982): Guru Kuppaiah Pillai (Bharata Natyam), Vempatti Chinna Satyam (Kuchipudi), Pankaj Charan Das (Odissi), Guru C.R. Acharyalu (Kuchipudi), Dr. Anjali Merh (Bharatanatyam), Mamkulam Vishnu Namboodthiri (Kathakali), Kalyanikutty Amma (Mohiniattam), Guru Bipin Singh (Manipuri), Pt. Gaurishankar (Kathak), Kumudini Lakhia (Kathak), Sunaina Hazarilal (Kathak) and many more.
The artistes who have performed for Kalasadan over the years include: (Performers of the 1977 and 1982 Conference)- Yamini Krishnamoorthy (Kuchipudi & Bharatanatyam), Padma Subramaniam (Bharatanrityam), Chitra Visweswaran (Bharatanatyam), Shobha Naidu (Kuchipudi), Smita Shastri (Kuchipudi), Hema Malini (Bhatanatyam), Dr. Kanak Rele (Mohiniattam), Jhaveri Sisters (Manipuri), Shankar Behra (Odissi), Ustad Bismillah Khan (Shehnai), D. N. Rajam (Violin, Hindustani), N.Ramani (Flute), Ustad Abdul Halim Jaffar Khan(Sitar) , Trichy Raghav lyer(Mridangam) many other great artistes.
Suvarna Jayanti Mahotsav:
The Golden Jubilee of Kalasadan coincided with the 81st birthday of Guruji, which was celebrated at Shanrnukhananda in 2004. On this occasion, Nine Gurus, the Navaratnas, were conferred the title Kalaratna for their contribution in their respective fields of performing arts. On the day of his birth, he honored the gurus, which is a rarity.
Arangetrams:
After the completion of the training in a complete "Margam" or Repetoire(course of items), the students can choose to have an "Arangetram"- Maiden Performance where they will ascend the stage for the first time to showcase their complete training in the dance form.
Guru Abhivaadan Divas:
Eversince Guruji left us on 28th June 2006, the Kalasadan family remembers him and all the Gurus through the Guru Abhivaadan Divas-Remembering our Gurus. It is celebrated on the 5th of September every year, which marks the birth anniversary of Guru Shri Mani and the celebration of Teacher's Day. During the past few years, Gurus and artistes engaged in the promotion of Sanskrit, Indian Classical dance & music, have been honoured and felicitated on this day. All the senior students and teachers of Kalasadan come together and offer their Nrityarchana.
Annual Programmes:
In order to encourage the students who learn dance and music from our various centres, an annual programme is organised for these centres wherein the students could showcase their learnings in front of their parents and other family members which would encouragae them to continue pursuing this art.
Kalasadan has organized many programs such as the Kalyanji Anandji Musical Night, Premier of Ratnadeep where Hema Malini, Girish Karnad and Shabana Azmi were present, Bhagavata Mela tour, screening of 'Bhool Bhulaiya' film for the students of Kalasadan as Vidya Balan is one of Kalasadan's students. Kalasadan published the Sangeetha Natya Kala Sangraha, a compendium of articles presented in the conferences. Kalasadan has had the unique tradition of being able to teach, perform and also organize events with the help and support of its students, their parents and its well wishers and with minimal support from outsiders.
